CloseAs a relatively new addition to the BMW Heritage line, the 2021 BMW R 18 steals the show where ever it goes. The styling is old school, yet relaxed, with a single round headlamp at the front, an artfully crafted frame to support the engine, muscular yet straightforward lines, and just the right amount of chrome. The engine stands out, both literally and visually, with the cylinder heads proudly sticking out to the sides while the engine’s case features beautifully milled aluminum accents, a prominent 1800cc badge, and, of course, the BMW Roundel. The exhaust pipes have distinctive fishtail designs that add presence. The motorcycle comes finished in Black Storm Metallic with no other adornments, but BMW also offers white pinstriping to complement the fuel tank and rear fender lines. Mounting the motorcycle is easy for most riders, thanks to a low seat that is only 27.2-inches tall. Once you’re seated, you can look down on the simple speedometer with its simple multifunction display. When you’re ready to set off, you won’t have to fiddle with the key, thanks to BMW’s handy Keyless Ride system.
Reading any BMW R 18 review will inform you that at the heart of this incredible machine is a sizable two-cylinder boxer engine. Displacing 1,802 cubic centimeters makes this BMW’s highest displacement boxer engine ever. But it’s not all old-school; using modern technology, this engine churns out an impressive 91 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 116 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Other modern features include BMW Motorrad Integral ABS to help you stop confidently. Three riding modes, Rock, Roll, and Rain let you adjust the automatic stability control to suit different riding conditions.
